Pro Tip # 8: The more you realize that you own nothing, the less energy you will waste trying to accumulate things that you cannot keep.

The more you realize that you own nothing, the less energy you will waste trying to accumulate things that you cannot keep.

Ownership exists only on the surface level. True lasting ownership, in reality, is an illusion. We rent everything.

If you believe you are a homeowner and think that you own the property outright, try abstaining from paying your property taxes and see what happens.

Your property will be taken from you by the local government. Whomever you need to pay to stay in your residence is in reality your landlord. Everything else is simply semantics.

If you pay a mortgage, you are, (in the present tense) paying rent to the bank that holds your property deed and title. Stop paying your mortgage, and the bank will take your property. That’s also called rent.

The longer we hang on to the illusion of personal ownership, the more we will suffer.

Your body, your money, your possessions, your relationships, and ultimately your life here on earth, is on loan to you. Trust me, you will repay this loan down to the last penny. Everything you have in your life right now, including your life, is temporary and will be given back much sooner than we think.

Some of what you currently have will go back to the earth bank (your body), and the rest of your physical possessions will be passed on to others, sold, given away, or thrown away, but rest assured that you will not keep any of it.

Knowing this is vitally important because many people incorrectly assume that they are their possessions. This illusion keeps our energy focused on acquiring more possessions, or guarding our current possessions, but not on the process of actually living.

If we want to make something lasting out of our life, we will need to learn to devote ourselves to a transcendent reality that goes beyond our temporary possessions. This transcendent reality is life itself.
